When the site of Hattie's Camp was selected
as an aerodrome for land-based air craft,
anybody getting off the train would have seen only a line of trees.
A trail south towards Gander Lake would have revealed only
more spruce and some fir and fairly boggy terrain on a plateau.
No wonder the Saturday Evening Post
called it a "Whistle Stop".
The following photos should give an idea
of the work that had to be done.
